At BMS I had the opportunity to work with teachers from all three grade levels. Positive interactions with the faculty supported the coaching process.  I focused on coaching the new teacher and offered instructional support, not only during PLC meetings but also independently. He demonstrated working well with them, understanding the content and building positive interactions that supported his teaching. He is a first-year teacher and his students have shown the highest proficiency levels on several district assessments given during the second semester within the school. His class structures improved during the semester as well. Some class procedures were established and student behaviors demonstrated its effectiveness.  There is potential for growth and we are still working on the organization of the learning areas.  This teacher has a growth mindset. During conference time he would ask questions and look for suggestions to improve his practice which helps support his ongoing professional growth as an educator. 

 

The sixth-grade team was coached as well with a focus on vertical alignment. The sixth and seventh grade have been part of the PLC meetings in which they focus on supporting the eight grade students by being part of their intervention process and also through aligning their lessons in a way that can prepare the current sixth and seventh graders to acquire the tools for the eight grade. 

     In SMS through the coaching process, we were able to implement student-centered practices to support the students in the areas of need.  Transitioning from teacher-centered to small group instruction became their model and teachers worked with their Instructional Coach and me to promote and implement it in their Social Studies lessons. Teachers that have not been exposed to small group instruction started to implement this process and coached through the different steps to become more comfortable in its implementation. Coaching related to the structures and management of the groups took place at SMS with varied results.
